and It’s my honor to help you navigate your home schooling journey!

Just like you, I wear a lot of hats! I’m a former home educator, a writer, editor, entrepreneur, tutor, and sous chef to the grill king in our recently empty nest.

I’m also passionate about helping families who are new to home schooling to create intentional learning environments that will encourage exploration, creativity, and quiet time for real thinking (just exiting the public school system and bringing your children HOME for school? I’ve been there, too. We can talk about that hot mess another time). Sounds like an idyllic education dream, doesn’t it? Well, we did it.

But it didn’t start out that way!   

For many years I struggled to figure out the ‘right’ way to teach our children, falsely assuming that there was some sort of magic formula that would make everything fall into place and transform our home education journey into a smooth path of ‘rainbows and happy trees.’

Instead, I found myself overwhelmed again and again, trying to recreate the only system I knew — the public school classroom — in our home. I wondered if I could ever get it together and be the mentor my children needed me to be — and still be Mom at the end of the day.

Then I discovered that the LORD had a better path for our family, and I began my own re-learning process. I let Him begin to strip away the unnecessary burden of so much of what we call ‘education’, and He taught me some valuable lessons.

Now, after over 27 years of guiding our children from kindergarten through high school graduation and the college application process, I feel like the insurance commercial: I know a thing or two, because I’ve seen a thing or two! And I can think of nothing better than to share those lessons I learned with you as you seek a better way to educate your own children.

You’ve already done the heavy lifting, mama — you’ve set your course for education freedom, and as you join me here for guidance, teaching tips, and inspiration, my prayer for you is that you will trust that the LORD has already prepared a path for your family and He will make His way clear to you.

Home schooling is simple — but it isn’t always easy. By taking small steps consistently over time you will gain confidence in yourself and in your children, and you’ll find your own education groove.
